The Creation of a Recursion

A recursion occurs when an image or part of an image appears again and again within itself. A painting of an artist painting the very same painting is a good example of recursion. In this VoiceThread video, I explain how I made a recursion with an image of myself.

Python

In Python, I made a turtle named Tina who would complete my illusion of circles. I used seven different colors for my circles that the turtle would go through. To add, in lines 10-15, is where I sized how big the circles will be. As you go through the lines, the circles get smaller and smaller because the radius is decreasing. At the end, all the circles once fully completed, will form an heptagon in the middle.

The Proper Procedure

Using an algorithm, helped me find the proper solution for the Lightbot levels. At first, I plugged in different steps just to see an approximation of where the character lands for the light to turn on. After this, I saw that the bot, managed to turn on two of the three steps and so I had to change the procedure so the bot would then turn right and then walk three on the P1 section in the puzzle. I came to the final solution mainly by trial and error and also conceptual thinking.

Bebras Challenge: Mobile Phones

The mobile phone challenge was every so slightly more time consuming than some of the other activities before this. For this challenge, I used computational thinking to solve it by knowing that there are three phones but only two chargers and we had to find out the shortest time possible to charge their phone. Therefore, you must divide three by two, giving you one hour and a half which is the shortest time that they need to fully charge their phones.

Seeking the Pattern

The log-art challenge was fairly easy, mainly because it was a level A problem. To add, I did use a pretty simple algorithm to find the proper pattern. Firstly, I knew that I had to find a pattern that was represented in the design, but to find that, I had to then cut or divided up each image into two and this would then help me observe one of four patterns. Then when I thought that I had observed one pattern, I would in a sense "plug it back in" to the design to confirm whether or not it was a match.

Effects of Instagram on Adolescents

This module benefitted me greatly because now I know that Canvas is useful and even effective resource. I will definitely use this website for future academic uses.

For my infographic design, I used a variety of different colors, shapes, fonts, and layouts. Besides that, I tried to make it as informative and clear as possible because this topic is not to commonly talked about and social media in general is causing harm to teenagers severely.

Color: For my infographic background, I picked green because I wanted a color that could set in the background very well without drawing too much attention. Besides that, for my "small" text that states facts about the harm and overuse of Instagram, I picked white since there was a green background, I knew that white would stand out to the reader. Also, it would be visible enough for somebody to read with a thicker background. For my arrows, I picked a light orange and red because as I said before, I wanted particular parts of this to stand out and I wanted to arrows to be dramatically emphasized. Lastly, for the titles on each page, I picked blue because I wanted a thicker color that somewhat stood out but not to the extent in which the red or white was.

Shapes: The shapes that I used in my infographic design, were squares and triangles. I used these two just for variety purposes. I used triangles at the tip of the arrows and I used squares for the outside of the pictures. To add, some of the shapes would show what would come after. For example, with one of the red arrows coming out of the Instagram picture, it is giving facts about teenagers and Instagram.

Font/Layout: For the font, I chose "Arimo" because it was legible and neat. I wanted it to be easy to read, as well. On the other hand, for my layout, I introduce a shocking yet key fact so whoever reads it, could now understand what I am trying to prove. As it went on, I would include more facts about how Instagram is tremendously affecting teenagers in a non-beneficial way. To add, as each image is presented the facts are there to back it up with additional information.

To sum it up, what I found that was most interesting about this assignment is the ability to create a form of art that is very informational and influential. In more depth, the ability to merge images, using certain forms of specific colors, and even symbols or shapes to keep it clear and organized, were by far the most interesting parts of the assignment. Besides that, I improved on my researching skills because the process was arduous because I had to make sure time and time again that the articles that I am picking to us, had enough information to back up the topic.

Then and Now

With the completion of my first semester of high school, I learned
many aspects of myself as a student. To begin with,
I have become more of a visual learner than an auditorial learner. This is because now I like to repeat tasks that I have done before. For example, in math class when a problem has been completed, I like to re-do it again because I realize that repetition and seeing what I am doing multiple times ends up benefitting me.

Besides that, as the semester went on, I developed a study skill that benefited me drastically. It was reviewing the material bit by bit until the night before the test. So, I would study a page or two in depth for one night. Then the following night I would study another page. A week later, the night before the test, I would then review all of the material just so then I feel confident. However, by then I would know everything so there is no point of doubt or uncertainty by then.

The one project that I am the most proud of this semester, is the Twilight project. This project I spent the most time with. Primarily because I spent a lot of time creating questions for the person that I interviewed, having email exchanges with the person, and then transcribing everything what was said during the interview. Also, once the project was complete, I felt extremely confident about it because I left "no stone unturned" and I put forth the best work that I possibly could.

During the semester, the one thing that did not reach the results that I had hoped for was the Fairytale project. This project, I started off strong by having a great idea to build around, and I felt as excited for the project as it could get. However, as time went by, my ideas for the project began to dissipate and that affected my mindset on the project greatly. To add, once we got our grades back on the project, I got a B+ on it when my intentions were to get an A.

In general though, the content from this class proved to be useful to me because with the extension, I have become a more efficient student. For example, I use the StayFocused extension when I need to block a website because it is prohibiting me from completing an assignment.

In conclusion, a specific goal for second semester is putting forth one hundred percent effort and care on all assignments, homework in particular. The steps that I will take to accomplish this goal, is first avoiding an form of distraction as possible. Then, I will avoid technology so I am just concentrating on my homework and nothing else. Lastly, I will not rush to complete the homework but I will plan out time intervals saying that I should be done with a specific section at a certain time.
